Our Three Year school development plan is focused on mathematics. This past week I shared how what we know about how our students are learning is changing the way we are teaching. According to their recent report cards, we need to continue to focus on mental math and having students understand and explain their thinking. As just one of our strategies, we have offered weekly "low floor, high ceiling" challenges. If you look at the Twitter feed and listen to the conversations that are happening, our students are becoming much more confident in sharing their ideas and working together on challenging tasks. Our next step is the one I introduced on the blog last week and went into detail about at the School Council Meeting; Number Talks. I am often asked, "How can I help at home?" so you will find a section in the blog weekly called just that. This week is about how you can talk to your kids about Math. How Can I Help at Home?
