This year we flip the calendar for the last time this year! June certainly seems to have come quickly this year. The system projections for the number of students at our school next year are fairly consistent with what we now have, however the number of students in various grades have changed. As you know, we believe that creating classes of students in multi-age groupings allows students to have more consistency and a much easier transition into the next grade. Based on this belief and our knowledge of who our students are as learners and individuals, staff have decided to plan for the following configuration for next year:
We are currently creating class lists for next year and we would appreciate it if you could let us know if you are planning on leaving our school. We will be sending home a notice on Monday in backpacks with our oldest and only students in each family so that you can let us know your plans. Calgary Children's FestivalThis week our students in Kindergarten to grade six were very lucky to have attended the Calgary Children's Festival through a donation of the tickets AND the buses from KidsmART! What an amazing experience and what a great day it was for everyone! Thanks to the donors at KidsmART and Calgary International Children's Festival, as well as our fantastic volunteers and staff! Early Development Centre (EDC) UpdateRecently, the EDC students have been learning Fairy Tales. So far, we have read The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. The students have been excited to participate in the retelling of the story and often incorporate parts of these Fairy Tales into their daily play experiences. For example, while playing with play dough some students made three pigs and a big bad wolf. Another group retold Goldilocks at the kitchen center, acting it out with props they found around the classroom. In the coming weeks, we are excited to explore the life cycle of butterflies as we watch our tiny caterpillars grow and transform into beautiful butterflies! Math Challenge from Mrs. VillmanRhythm Composition Your challenge is be a music composer this week! Design your composition to create rhythm that includes a time signature and FOUR rectangles. The number of beats in each rectangle must match the number of beats you choose for your time signature. Remember that the number of sounds does not usually equal the number of beats. Each rhythm symbol shows the number of sounds on a beat or the number of beats that the sound is held. (Check out Mrs. Villman's twitter feed for examples if you are stuck - https://twitter.com/DHSVillman. Can you demonstrate math in music by sharing your composition with your friends?
