These drawings are by David Zinn, an artist who currently specializes in creating public art with chalk. He creates these charming pieces knowing that they will not be there forever because it WILL rain and they will be gone. He shares his art through photographs and video posted to social media, but imagine going for a walk and discovering this on the sidewalk. David understands that while it may not last forever, the moments that it does last brings joy to those who see it. In the video on this page, you can hear about it from the artist himself. I came across this artist's work recently and at first it seemed so sad that these wonderful images cannot last. Then I realized that there are two ways to look at it; we can view it anticipating that it will be gone, or we can just enjoy it in the moment it is there. As I write this, there are only 13 school days for students left in this year. We have accomplished so much and yet there is always more to do! Every minute of learning time is precious, as is the twenty minutes that students spend every night doing math or reading. With the warm evenings and activities starting up, it can be hard to fit in that special time to sit and read together, and sometimes playing a board game or taking a walk and talking can be be a great way to alternate that nightly routine. Oral storytelling is important, too and in addition to learning how to listen to and create stories, it passes on your family history to the next generation. The next 13 days will fly past, and this is a time when events are frequently added at the last minute, so please check the blog and Twitter frequently as this is where we will let you know about updates to daily events. This week's challenge is ARTCan you create a temporary piece of art to share with the school community? You could use chalk, or create a sculpture - take a picture of your temporary art and tweet what you made and why it is important. What do you hope that your audience will feel as they look at your art? Weekly UpdatesThis week we will welcome Sound Kreations to our school for a one week dance residency! We are thrilled that this company is able to be with us for the entire week - including a performance on Friday that is open to all families! Monday, June 12
