To have success in today's world, one must be a reader. To have success in tomorrow's world, one will need to be a reader and a problem solver. With literacy and numeracy at the center, it is imperative that our students are competent with both. All of our students have homework every night. That homework is that EACH of our students is expected to read for twenty minutes per night. If your child is not reading and talking about what they are reading, they are not practicing the vital skills that we teach throughout their day. Author of the Week - Jan BrettThis week's author is one of the most well known author/illustrators in the world. She has written too many books to list here, but if you want to know more you could check the library, or check the list on her website. Jan Brett lives in the United States, in Massachusetts, and she and her husband love to travel. You will notice that her illustrations include a lot of colour and detail. If you would like to know more about her and her writing and illustrating, check out http://www.janbrett.com/pdf/jan_brett_time_magazine_for_kids.pdf. This is a great video of Jan Brett reading her book, The Mitten. This is a retelling of a classic Ukrainian folktale in which Nicki loses his mitten in the forest. As you watch and listen to her read the story, notice the detail that she adds to the frames on the outside of her pictures. Updates from the Office
